Giving families a blessing of hope during the Christmas Season
We love Christmas. It is a time to offer families in our community with a Christmas Blessing. During the month of November families can register for our program. In December they return and receive everything they will need for Christmas. They are given a gift card for groceries and then they “shop” the Christmas store for children’s gifts. Giving our families choices–allowing them to make decisions about what they would like to eat for Christmas dinner and finding the perfect gifts for their children provides dignity and compassion.
During the Christmas Season there many ways the community can be involved. We need kettle bell ringers, toy sorters and reception greeters. There are Christmas Events such as The Tiny Tim Breakfast, Santa Shuffle and Fill the Van for Sally Ann. Check the calendar of events and join us.
The money raised in the Christmas kettles and through donations received at our Centres are all used in the Central Okanagan to help families that find themselves struggling during this festive season as well as throughout the year. The Sharing Christmas Food & Toy Program strives to assist families in need (where two or more individuals are living in the same household).
This past year we provided over 560 Christmas food & toy blessings to families that find themselves in need. The new toys that were donated became presents under the Christmas tree for over 1,100 children. We are grateful to the many companies and organizations that do Toy Drives for us. It is because of their help – we can help others.
