Capt. Darryl Burry Lead Pastor / Executive Director
Darryl is an Island Boy – but from the other side of the country. A native Newfoundlander, and having experienced his childhood living in Eastern Canada (from Newfoundland to Ontario), Darryl moved to Winnipeg in 1993 to attend Booth University College (BUC). While here, he met the love of his life, Kim, and throughout their married life, have spent their time in Western Canada (with the exception of a 15 month stint in Toronto).
Darryl has worked for The Salvation Army since 2008 in roles such as the Director of Street Youth Ministry in Toronto, ON; Assistant Dean of Student Development at BUC; and Associate Pastor of Kelowna Community Church.
In 2008, Darryl and Kim relocated to the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island where they were asked to lead The Salvation Army in that community. In July 2014, Darryl and Kim were appointed back to Kelowna to lead Salvation Army operations here.
Darryl holds a Masters of Arts in Leadership (University of Guelph) and Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministries with a concentration in Christian Education (Booth University College).
Darryl enjoys helping others to understand and deepen their faith, and a desire to reach out into the community for Christ. Darryl also has a deep love for music and passion for authentic worship.
Capt. Kim BurryFamily Life Pastor / Community Ministries Chaplain
Kim grew up the daughter of Salvation Army Pastors and Missionaries who were serving in Kenya, Africa. She spent the first nine years of her life in Thika, Kenya where her parents gave leadership to The Salvation Army School for the Blind. Following her time in Kenya, Kim and her family relocated to Jamaica for three years before returning home to Canada, and taking up residence in Vancouver.
Kim holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Booth University College and holds a Certificate of Advanced Congregational Leadership. She has also completed The Salvation Army’s Leadership Development Initiative.
She has a deep love for people and has given leadership to various programs for women, children and youth both within the church and for various community based ministries.
